CONRAD
Currence B. Conrad, the son of John Conrad and Elizabeth(Currence) Conrad,
was born in Braxton Co. Virginia January 29, 1812 and died in Gilmer County
WV October 22, 1897. He married Ann Haymond. Ann, a daughter of Wilson
and Nancy Haymond was born December 7, 1813 and died in Gilmer County April
23, 1878. This Currence B. Conrad was a Brigadier
General in the Virginia
Militia prior to the Civil war and represented Gilmer County in theVirginia
Legislature. He voted against secession in that body and was strictly
neutral during the Civil War. This report is borne out by the fact that
he served as County Clerk for Gilmer County about thirty years, and members
of the Confederacy were prohibited from holding public office.

Alltop, was born December 25, 1854 and died December 21, 1938. She
married Benjamin Virgil Vannoy July 12, 1877. Benjamin was born in
1858 and died April 17, 1881. Henry and Mary separated
after a few years of marriage and Mary married Benjamin Franklin Perkins.

Thompson, who was born in 1845. On June 9, 1893, Currence married Matilda
J. Marks. Matilda, a daughter of Hiers and Permilia (Edwards) Marks,
was born in 1853. He is buried in theConrad Cemetery on Cedar Creek
in Gilmer County WV and one of his wives in the Smith Marks Cemetery on
Crooked Fork of Steer Creek in Gilmer County.
