1.BALSOR SPONAUGLE
George Washington Sponaugle, a son of George and Catherine (Schroyer) Sponaugle,
was born in 1840, probably in Pendleton County VA and died in Lincoln County
WV November 5, 1926. George served the Confederacy in the Civil War.
He married Sarah Marks. Sarah, a daughter of Evan and Margaret Marks,
was born in VA in 1846 and died in WV in 1926. Apparently George
and Sarah divorced and George married Margaret Marks. Margaret, a daughter
of Hyer and Permilia (Edwards) Marks, was born in VA in 1855 and died in
WV in 1937. This marriage also ended in divorce.
In the 1870 Gilmer County WV census, Margaret is listed in
the household of George
and
Sarah. George and Sarah's children took the family name of Marks,
since they were born before their parents were married.
George married May A. Lynch in Gilmer County March 31, 1915. They
moved to Lincoln County WV and George died in Lincoln County.
