Samuel James Singleton, born in 1813 in Fauquier Co., Va; died 186_, Braxton Co., Wv. m. 20 Dec 1836 in Fauquier Co., Va to ELIZABETH C. McINTIRE, b. 1811 or 12, Faquier Co., Va; d. 1 August 1860 in Braxton Co., (W) Va d/o Michael & Jennie McIntire.

In the 1850 census Sam listed his real estate worth at $500 and said that he could not read or write. In 1850 he received a land grant for 45 acres on the waters of O’Brien’s Fork in Braxton Co.,

Samuel owned and operated a tavern on Salt Kick. This article appeared 5 Sept 1859 in the Weston Herald Newspaper; “Samuel Singleton and Franklin Ferrell staged a duel at Salt Kick Bridge with some pistols they did not know were loaded. Ferrell was killed.”

2. URIAH WASHINGTON SINGLETON, b. 9 May 1815; d. 19 Sep 1885 in Braxton Co., WV of Spinal disease: m. 4 Oct 1838, Braxton Co., (W)VA to ELIZABETH HEATER, b 28 Aug 1821; d. 2 Oct 1910; d/o JACOB and DELILAH (RIFFLE) HEATER,. Both are bur. in what is now known as the Jake Singleton Cem. , Napier, WV.
 In the Braxton Co., Census of 1850, Uriah listed his property as worth $900.00 and said that he could not read or write. In 1849, 1859 and 1860 Uriah received land grants totaling 570 acres. Uriah’s will, written 15 Sep 1885 and probated 26 Sep 1895 in Braxton County Clerk's office, showed that he had already deeded land to his sons. His wife was to keep the household furniture and some other items. proceeds from the sale of cattle and other items, as well as money, was to be divided among his living daughters. His daughter Sarah Jane had been given land before her death, so he considered that to be the inheritance of her children. Each son received $1.00 and land. John W. received 112 acres, Jacob 150 acres, Newton 140 acres, “Wash” 137 acres, and Wirt 225 acres.
 In the 1900 Census Elizabeth was in the home of her son Jake, which was the home place.

After Margaret's death, William was married on 5 Aug 1859 in Braxton County to ELIZA JANE SQUIRES, b. 16 Sep 1836 at Flatwoods, Braxton Co., WV; d. 24 Apr 1923 at Gem, Braxton Co., WV; bur. W.K. Singleton Cem.; d/o TAYLOR & ELIZABETH (WYATT) SQUIRES.

Three of William's sons from his first marriage married sisters of Eliza Jane Squires.

In the 1850 Census of Braxton County, William K. Singleton had real estate valued at $1600.00. Neither he nor Margaret could read or write. During the 1850s William received land grants for over 2000 additional acres of land. Before his death, he deeded land to each of his sons even though several of them were very young. The home place was given to his wife, Eliza Jane.
