Clementine “Clem” (Rommetsch) Gerwig
Clementine was born March 10,
1850. The daughter of Jacob and Louisa Rommetsch of Steer Creek, Gilmer
County, West Viirginia. She married George Frederick Gerwig in 1886. Clementine
was the second marriage of “Fred”. She became the mother of nine step-children.
One daughter was born to Clem and Fred.
Carrie was born, October 25,
1888, and married Arthur Nutter of Gilmer County, West Virginia.
Clementine died February 7,
1937 at the home of her daughter Carrie Nutter of Cederville at the age
of 86.
Clementine was known among her
friends and relatives as one who sought to do all in her power for their
welfare. To all her step-sons and step-daughters, she was amother in all
the word implies. A tireless worker, she directed her labors for the good
of her home, her community, and all with whom she came in contact.
Early in her life, Clementine,
professed her faith in Christ and joined the German Brethern Church of
Braxton County, West Virginia.
Carrie, was the daughter of Clementine
and Fred Gerwig of Tom’s Run, Braxton CO., West Virginia. The grand-daughter
of Jacob and Louisa Rommetsch.
Carrie, lived 42 years on Tom’s
Run in Braxton County., 25 years in Cederville and spent the remained of
her life with her youngest daughter, Erma Lee, in Akron, Ohio.
Even at the age of 100, she
still did some quilting, sewing, crocheting and worked jig-saw puzzles.
She was pictured on the Good Morning America Program on tevelision October
26, 1988.
Surviving are five daughters and two sons.

Georg Frederich Gerwig, 7 April, 1798 - 23 Oct. 1870

Julianna Elizabeth Konig, 1792 - 9 Oct. 1875
Georg was born in the town of Neusatz,
Schwarzwald District, Germany. His parents were Christopher Adam Gerwig,
a farmer and a weaver and Regina Jacobina (Ruffien), Gerwig. He married
Julianna Elizabeth konig of Dobel, whose parents were Christian Frederick
Konig and Elizabeth (Konig) Konig. Today, Dobel has a population of about
1200 and Neusatz is smaller.
Georg, was a hostler, a handler and
trainer of horses until about 1833 when he and Julianna with three sons
emigrated to Baltimore, Maryland. In September 1840, they moved to the
area later known as the German Settlement, Steer Creek, Braxton Co., (western)
Virginia. They are all burried on the hill on Steer Creek, behind the Oterbein
Church. They had six children.
