Omer Art Post
Omer Art Post married Estella Straley, daughter of Peter A. and Florence (Romaine) Straley. They lived on Upper Dusk Camp, Braxton County on the Gilmer County line. It is called Toller Fork now. They lived in the home place of Great Grand-father Charles and Great Grand-mother Julia Ann Post. Uncle Art was the youngest son of Charles and Julia Ann. He and Aunt Estella cared for Charles and Julia Ann in their later years.
Uncle Art and Aunt Estella were the parents of twelve children, four daughters and eight sons. In the year of 1944, four of their sons were serving in the armed forces of the United States. Ordie, Straley, Junior and Charles.
Pvt. Ordie Post was killed Nov. 3rd, 1944, while serving in France. Straley and Junior were in the U.S.Army, Charles served in the US Navy. On September 22, 1944, another son, James Carlton (Buddy) Post, age 15 was accidentally struck by a street car in Baltimore, Md. He died the next day. This leaving six brothers and four sisters.
Charles. died in 1950, Allen, died in 1962. Uncle Art passed away in 1974, Aunt Estella in 1975. Glen, their first born died in 1975.
Uncle Art and Estella
shared their lives for 65 years. They have seven surviving children. Pearl
(Peggy) James, Straley, Junior, Eloise Albertson, Mae Smith, Catherine
Ratliff, and Don. And to date (1993) twenty one Grand-children.
