GEORGE W. MILLER

Note: Tracing the descendants of any of the three George Millers who appeared in the 1870 Gilmer County WV census can be confusing because of the similarity of names. Another George W. Miller is listed and his age is almost the same as this George.

1.GEORGE MILLER
George "Dutch" Miller was born in Bavaria April 20, 1820 and died in Gilmer County WV November 9, 1910. He came to PA from Germany about 1835 and came from PA to Gilmer County VA (WV) March 18, 1852. He married Sarah Elsie Messenger in Gilmer County July 22, 1856. Elsie, a daughter of Hira and Mary (Ridenour) Messenger, was born in Preston County VA January 25, 1838 and died March 2, 1920.

2.ROSWELL MILLER
Roswell Miller, a son of George "Dutch" and Sarah Elsie (Messenger) Miller, was born in Gilmer County VA (WV) June 4, 1857 and died December 14, 1928. He married Tabitha Cathern See September 25, 1881. Tabitha, a daughter of George Adam and Cathern (-----) [Stover] See, was born October 26, 1863 and died January 23. 1943.

4.JOHN ALBERT MILLER
John Albert Miller, a son of George "Dutch" and Sarah Elsie (Messenger) Miller, was born in Gilmer County Va (WV) December 31, 1861 and died in 1935. He married Margaret Ellen Heckert in Gilmer County March 2, 1888. Margaret, a daughter of David and Sarah Ann (Keister) Heckert, was born September 16, 1870 and died July 17, 1897.

Charles R. Miller, a son of George "Dutch" and Sarah Elsie (Messenger) Miller, was born in Gilmer County WV in 1872. He married Emma Edwards February 13, 1896.

Laura Dell Miller, a daughter of Roswell and Tabitha Kathryn (See) Miller, was born in Gilmer County WV October 14, 1882 and died in May 28, 1948. She married Ira Lewis Young November 27, 1901. Ira, a son of Granville and Belinda (Smith) Young, was born June 6, 1873 and died May 6, 1953.

Ward Roberts Miller, a son of Roswell and Tabitha Kathryn (See) Miller, was born in Gilmer County WV June 10, 1896 and died July 19, 1978. He married Gertrude Furr. Gertrude, a daughter of Enoch and Malinda Elzariah (Riddle) Furr, was born April 5, 1896 and died November 27, 1973.

Vic, a son of Rudolph Nathaniel and Lucy Rhodes (Smith) Childers, was born in Braxton County WV August 14, 1902 and died in Harrison County WV October 11, 1982.

Gordon Walker Miller, a son of Roswell and Tabitha Kathryn (See) Miller, was born in Gilmer County WV October 2, 1904 and died in OK July 5, 1961. Gordon left Gilmer County in 1925 for the oil fields in OK. He was married to Lavonne ------ and divorced. He then married Lorene -----. This marriage ended in divorce. He married Dessie Eliza Smith in Wichita, KS June 12, 1925. Dessie was born in Buffalo, MO November 15, 1912 and died November 11, 1986. They divorced. Gordon's fourth marriage was to Josie Norman?.
