Paternal grandparents , Ben and Mary ( Gordon ) Skidmore- maternal grandparents John and Margaret ( Miller ) Johnston. His grandfather John Johnston died in prison in the later part of the Civil War. George W., worked as a traveling salesman, he left Braxton County to make his residence in Lexington KY.
