Isaac Hite was probably born about 1790. He married Marry Koontz.

2.JOHN S. HITE
John S. Hite, a son of Isaac and Mary (Koontz) Hite, was born in Rockingham
County VA in 1819 and died in Alton, IL February 5, 1863. He married
Rachel C. Burns March 22, 1840. Rachel, a daughter of John II and
Margaret (Monroe) Burns, was born in Bath County VA May 6, 1820 and died
in Gilmer County WV September 13, 1885. The family came to Gilmer County
VA (WV) about 1858.
John must have been associated in some way with one or the other of the
Confederate guerrilla groups that were operating in WV during the Civil
War, since his arrest date coincides with the date of other arrests for
that same offense.
John was arrested in Greenbrier County VA November 27, 1862 by Colonel
Paxton of the 2nd W.Va. Cavalry. He was transported with other prisoners
and arrived at Wheeling, WV December 4, 1862. He arrived at Camp
Chase in Ohio December 5, 1862 and arrived at Alton, IL January 10, 1863.
He died of gastritis in the prison at Alton February 5, 1863.
Federal records describe him as 44 years of age, 5 feet 10inches tall,
with brown eyes and black hair. He is listed as a farmer from Gilmer
County.
