Emsey
Ellen Heater, a daughter of Jemason and Elizabeth (Stout) Heater, was born
in Gilmer County VA (WV) June 7, 1848 and died in Braxton County WV July
30, 1925. She married Christian Kuhl in Gilmer County, on October
28, 1866. Christian, a son of Henry and Catherine (Yeagle) Kuhl,
was born at Baltimore, Maryland on October 19, 1839 and died in Gilmer
County, WV on October 25, 1918. enlisted in Co. D, 31st VA Volunteer Infantry
at Glenville, Gilmer County VA May 31, 1861. He in 33 Civil War battles
and skirmishes and received four wounds. He was wounded and captured
at Petersburg VA March 25, 1865 and taken to City Point VA and then to
Lincoln Army Hospital at Washington, D.C. Lee surrendered April 10, 1865
and Christian signed an Oath of Allegiance June 10, 1865 and was released
from Lincoln Hospital June 14, 1865.
