5.JOSEPH BENNETT
Joseph Bennett, a son of Jacob and Sarah Bennett, was born in Loudon County
VA March 23, 1791 and died in Calhoun County WV September 27, 1880. He
married Mary Phillips in 1812 in Randolph County VA. Mary was a daughter
of Henry Phillips of Randolph County VA. He married Catherine Paine
in 1814. Catherine, a daughter of
Henry Paine, was born
in Randolph County about 1798. Apparently, Catherine died between
1850 and 1860 and Joseph married Jane (Bennett) Clelland in Calhoun County
January 20, 1858. Jane, a daughter of James and Elizabeth Bennett,
was born in Monongalia County VA January 31, 1820. Joseph was drafted into
the Milita May 15, 1812 and served 6 months in Captain William Booth's
Company of the 2nd Regiment, 1st Brigade of VA Militia in the War of 1812.
He was discharged April 9, 1813 at Fort Meigs on the Maumee River. He later
exchanged a bounty warrant for land in Lewis County VA. The land
was apparently in that part of Lewis County that was to become part of
Gilmer County and later, part of Calhoun Couhnty. The family moved to Lewis
County about
1830. They were enumerated
in the 1850 Gilmer County census and in the 1860 Calhoun census.

County VA May 22, 1808 and died in Barbolur County WV December 28, 1882.
He married Sarah Phillips January 11, 1827. Sarah, a daughter of John I.
and Bethia (Wells) Phillips, was born May 4, 1805 and died in Barbour County
January 13, 1879.

Bennett, a son of Joseph and Mary (Phillips) Bennett, was born in Randolph
County VA (WV) about 1816. He married Cynthia Stump.Cynthia, a daughter
of Michael Jr. and Elizabeth (Bush) Stump) was born in Randolph County
March 31, 1817 and died in Gilmer County WV November 19, 1876.
The family is listed in the 1850 Gilmer County VA and in the 1860 and 1870
Calhoun County Va (WV) census.

in 1895. William served in the Civil War.
